Air Fryer Steak Bites and Mushrooms

Steak bites and mushrooms is my families new favorite recipe.  Juicy steak and meaty mushrooms marinated in a quick marinade, then air fried until your desired doneness.  My family prefers medium, but I give tips for all meat temperatures and steak types.

Related: I get all of my grass fed beef and pasture raised chicken from Butcher Box.  Read my honest review here.

One thing I hate about making steak in the house is that is gets smoky and stinky.

How would it feel to start losing with keto?

Join my FREE 7 day keto challenge!

The Air Fryer eliminates all of these issues.  It is perfect for when you want to make steak but don’t want to mess with the grill.

HOW TO MAKE THE EASIEST STEAK BITES AND MUSHROOMS

This recipe works with any cut of your favorite steak.  I have used Ribeye, top sirloin, and NY Strip successfully.

Cut the steak into 1.5 inch cubes.  You could make them larger but I like making them bite size so they cook quicker and they are easier to eat.

I also slice the mushrooms into ¼ inch slices.  This yields perfectly cooked mushrooms in the time it takes the steak bites to cook.

If you make your steak bites larger than 1.5 inch cubes, you would need to make your mushrooms bigger.

Next, we need to assemble the marinade.  This includes avocado oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and salt and pepper.  This all gets tossed with the steak and mushrooms and marinates for 1 hour.

    PREHEATING THE AIR FRYER

This is a step that I often skip but I think for this recipe it is important.  This ensures the steak will get a nice even browning.  I preheat the air fryer at 400F for 5 minutes.

Wait until after it is pre-heated before you spray the basket with cooking spray.  This is so the cooking spray doesn’t burn.

Now we can pour the steak and mushrooms into the basket and cook them at 400F for 5 minutes.

raw steak and mushrooms in the air fryer

After the 5 minutes, open the basket and shake the contents so they steak bites and mushrooms cook evenly.

Now we are going to cook them for 5 minutes more.

When the time is up, I check the steak with a meat thermometer.  I have linked my favorite one in the recipe card.

    COOKING TO DESIRED TEMERATURE

    Rare=125F, Medium-rare=130F, Medium=140F, Medium-well=150F, well-done=160F

If the steak has not reached your desired doneness, continue to cook in 3 minute intervals until the thermometer placed in the center of 1 steak bite reaches the desired temperature.

I made this for the first time today, and it was absolutely delicious! I made it with Chuck steak because it was a little cheaper, and it was still tender and juicy. I can’t wait to try it again with a higher quality meat. My only substitution was olive oil for avocado. I didn’t have any problems with smoke. I will make this weekly now. Thanks for the fantastic recipe!

I’m trying this tonight but a tip to prevent smoking. Take the end pieces of a loaf of bread and it put in the bottom of the pan underneath the basket. The bread will soak up the drippings and reduce the smoke significantly.

Made this tonight, having recently bought an air fryer oven. Was a hit! The steak was juicy and tender. The veggies were perfectly done (added onions). There was so much juice that we used it as gravy for mashed potatoes (we’re diabetics, so we use keto recipes for low carb meals but don’t follow keto exclusively). It was perfect! Another Jennifer recipe added to the collection! I wish I could share the picture I took.

Canola oil is a polyunsaturated fat, not quite as high as a smoking point, but still okay to use

Is it all okay to put it all in the air frier at once? I’m worried its going to stack up and not spread out evenly and cook poorly.

      A hit at my house!
I plan to prep some steak in freezer bags so that my college son can throw them in the air fryer when he’s home and needs something to eat, or when I come home from work and need an easy dinner. We served with baked potatoes. Delish and so easy!

Prepared this for dinner tonight. I used a New York strip steak. You would swear it was filet. Unbelievably tender and succulent. Will definitely do this again, plus there was no mess. Stove top is clean, all I had to do was wash the basket. Perfect meal, glass of red wine, some rice or baked potato, voila. Dinner is served.

Would you eat this on it’s own as a meal or would you serve it with something accompanying it. As it serves 2 would eating just the steak and mushroom be filling enough

I love your recipes and print them out and place them in a binder because it makes it easier for me to plan and cook my meals. It would be so much easier if it could all be printed on one side of paper. The final recipe doesn’t need the blurb at the top saying you love cooking in your air fryer. Way too much space is taken up for prep time , cook time and total time. Good information yes but all that info could be side by side in one of those boxes. I personally think listing the equipment is unnecessary and certainly 8 serve is a waste of printer ink. I love your recipes just wish my printed copy was more useable
