This air fryer spaghetti squash recipe trumps all other ways to cook the versatile vegetable. This recipe teaches you how to cook spaghetti squash to perfection without it becoming soggy.

Spaghetti Squash in the Air Fryer

I have cooked spaghetti squash every which way possible. Most of the time I roast it in the oven as presented in my Roasted Spaghetti Squash Alfredo, Spaghetti Squash Pad Thai, and Italian Stuffed Spaghetti Squash. It's such a great substitute for regular spaghetti.

But this spaghetti squash in the air fryer is my new favorite method. It comes out perfectly cooked and fork tender in only 30 minutes. That's less time than baking so it's perfect for busy weeknights. It can be used as a simple side dish or as the main meal when it is stuffed full of delicious toppings.

    Serving suggestions

    • Sauces: Serve with a simple marinara sauce, Alfredo sauce, or your favorite pasta sauce. Here is my recipe for the best spaghetti sauce!
    • Make spaghetti squash boats - one of my favorite ways
    • Spaghetti Squash Casserole
    • Cheesy Air Fryer Spaghetti Squash: After cooking in the air fryer, top the spaghetti squash with mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese and cook for a few more minutes in the air fryer. This gives a delicious cheesy topping that the whole family will love.
    • Use as a pasta substitute with my delicious recipe for Chicken Parmesan

This air fryer spaghetti squash is a delicious side dish that can be served in a number of different ways.

    Ingredients

    • 1 spaghetti squash
    • 1 tablespoon avocado oil or olive oil
    • salt and black pepper
    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon dried basil
    • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
    • ½ teaspoon dried parsley

    Equipment

    • Air Fryer (Here's the air fryer I like best on Amazon)

    Method

    1. For easier cutting of the spaghetti squash: Using a sharp knife Poke 2 holes on one side of the spaghetti squash. Place the squash on a microwave safe plate and microwave on high for 4 minutes. Carefully remove the squash from the microwave and set aside to cool for 10 minutes, or until cool enough to handle.
    2. On a cutting board, cut the stem end off of the spaghetti squash. Now cut the squash in half lengthwise. Use a spoon to scrape the spaghetti squash seeds from the inside of the squash and discard.
    3. Use a basting brush to coat the flesh of each spaghetti squash half with the oil, then season evenly with the seasonings.
    4. Place the spaghetti squash halves inside of the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of the squash, they may not both be able to lay flat. You can see in the photo that I had one of them slightly tilted so they both would fit. Halfway through the cooking process, they will be able to collapse a bit in order to lay flat. If your air fryer basket is not large enough for both halves, you can cook each half one at a time.

    5. Cook in the air fryer at 400F for 30-40 minutes. Halfway through the cooking process, use tongs to carefully adjust the squash if necessary so they are laying flat. The cook time will depend on the size of the squash halves. Continue to cook until a fork easily pierces all of the way through the flesh in multiple spots.
    6. When fork tender, use a fork to scrape the flesh to reveal long strands of spaghetti noodles.

    Notes

    • Storage: Store leftover spaghetti squash in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
