These air fryer boneless skinless chicken thighs are one of the easiest ways to get a quick, high protein dinner on the table. They cook in about 20 minutes, stay juicy, and don’t require anything complicated. This is the method I use when I want something simple I know will turn out every time.

How long to cook boneless skinless chicken thighs in the air fryer

Here’s exactly how long to cook boneless skinless chicken thighs in the air fryer for the best results:

    • Place in a single layer for even cooking
    • Cook at 400F
    • Air fry for 20 to 25 minutes
    • Flip halfway through cooking
    • Cook until internal temperature reaches at least 165F
    • For more tender, juicy chicken, cook to 175 to 185F

    Why this recipe works

    Jennifer standing in her kitchen

This is one of those recipes I rely on when I don’t feel like thinking about dinner but still want something that turns out right.

Boneless skinless chicken thighs are really forgiving, so you don’t have to stress about overcooking them. I actually prefer taking them a little higher in temperature because they stay tender and end up better that way.

The air fryer makes this easy because it cooks them quickly and gives them a little bit of browning without drying them out. I don’t do anything complicated here, just oil and a simple seasoning, and it works every time.

This is the kind of meal I keep in rotation because it’s simple, high protein, and I know exactly how it’s going to turn out. It’s one less thing to think about during the week.

    Ingredients you need

You only need a few simple ingredients to make these air fryer boneless skinless chicken thighs:

    • Boneless skinless chicken thighs
    • Olive oil
    • Salt
    • Smoked paprika
    • Garlic powder
    • Dried oregano
    • Onion powder

This is my go-to chicken seasoning and the one I use most often. It’s simple, but it always gets good feedback and works with just about anything.

How to cook boneless skinless chicken thighs in the air fryer

This is exactly how I make them when I want something quick and reliable.

    1. Preheat your air fryer to 400F.
    2. Add the chicken thighs to a large bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and sprinkle in the seasoning. Use tongs to toss until the chicken is evenly coated.
    3. Place the chicken thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Try not to overlap them so they cook evenly.
    4. Air fry at 400F for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches at least 165F. I usually let mine go closer to 175 to 185F because they stay more tender that way.
    5. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.

    Tips from Jennifer's kitchen

    • Try to use chicken thighs that are similar in size so they cook evenly
    • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket or they won’t brown as well
    • Flip them halfway through cooking so both sides cook evenly
    • Use a meat thermometer instead of guessing so you don’t overcook them
    • Cooking them closer to 175 to 185F will give you more tender, juicy chicken
    • Let them rest for a few minutes before serving so the juices settle

How I make this a meal

This is usually how I build a quick dinner around these chicken thighs.

Most of the time, I just keep it simple and serve them as-is with something easy on the side. It’s a quick, high protein meal that doesn’t take much thought.

If I have leftovers, I’ll slice the chicken and use it for something like a chicken caesar wrap or BBQ chicken salad the next day. It’s an easy way to turn this into a second meal without cooking again.

If you’re trying to keep meals simple during the week, this is one of those proteins you can rotate with things like air fryer chicken thighs (bone in and skin on) or baked chicken tenders so you’re not starting from scratch every night.

More meals I make on repeat

If you need a few more easy dinner ideas like this, these are the ones I make most often.

My whole chicken in the air fryer is a go-to when I want something quick that works for everyone. Air fryer steak bites are another easy option when I want something different but still fast. And BBQ pork tenderloin with my Keto Coleslaw is one I make when I want something simple that feels a little more like a full dinner.

    Variations

You can easily change the flavor of these chicken thighs depending on what you’re in the mood for or what you have on hand.

    • BBQ: Brush your favorite BBQ sauce on during the last few minutes of cooking
    • Italian: Swap the seasoning for Italian seasoning and add a little parmesan after cooking
    • Spicy: Add chili powder, cayenne, or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the seasoning
    • Lemon garlic: Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice after cooking for a brighter flavor
    • Simple salt and pepper: Skip the spice blend and keep it basic when you want something really neutral

    How to store and reheat

Store any leftover chicken thighs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

To reheat, you can use the microwave for a quick option, but I prefer using the air fryer so they don’t dry out. Reheat at 350F for a few minutes until warmed through.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cook boneless skinless chicken thighs from frozen in the air fryer?

Yes, but they will take longer to cook. Add about 5 to 10 extra minutes and make sure they reach an internal temperature of at least 165F. For best results, I prefer thawed chicken so the seasoning sticks better and they cook more evenly.

How do I keep chicken thighs from drying out in the air fryer?

Chicken thighs are naturally more forgiving than chicken breasts, so they’re less likely to dry out. Cooking them to around 175 to 185F actually helps make them more tender. Also, don’t skip the oil and avoid overcooking.

How many chicken thighs can I cook at once?

Cook them in a single layer without overlapping. Depending on the size of your air fryer, this is usually about 4 to 6 thighs at a time. If you need to cook more, do it in batches.

I loved the her/spice combination and will definitely do again! It would help if you would list the weights of the thighs. Theses days they range from small to ginormous.

It was good but 20 min way too long 5to cook or 400 degrees too high. It was well done and tough.

Wow. I want to make and then eat them.
Can I suggest you add metric measures, temp and weights, volume.
There are many countries that only use metric.
