I love to make smoothies in the morning or as a snack.  This Matcha Smoothie is a nice change to the typical smoothie.  It gives me a nice "pick me up" and it is really delicious!

    WHAT IS MATCHA?

Matcha is simply green tea leaves that have been finely ground into a powder.  Matcha green tea leaves also go through a different process during harvesting.  While most green tea is brewed from the leaves and then the leaves are discarded, Matcha powder makes a very concentrated green tea that is full of antioxidants and nutrients.

Matcha has a really nice tea flavor that I like.

HOW TO MAKE A MATCHA SMOOTHIE

This matcha smoothie is really easy to make.  The recipe makes 2 smoothies, but it is easy to scale up to make more, or scale down to make just one.  In addition to the matcha green tea powder, I add frozen greens, frozen fruit, almond milk, and stevia.

I like to make my matcha smoothie low carb, so I choose fruits that are lower in sugar like blueberries or strawberries.  You could use any fruit you like, though.  I like to use frozen fruit to make the smoothie nice and cold.  You could use bananas, mango, pineapple, or a combination of all 3!

I also used a little stevia to sweeten up this matcha smoothie, but you could use maple syrup or honey as well.

After everything is all blended up, you can top it with hemp hearts for some added protein, or you can also use homemade granola for a heartier breakfast treat!
