This is a DELICIOUS mug cake. I made a the plain chocolate cake first and it was so RICH!! I just made it again but decided to put a tbsp of peanut butter in the middle. It was AMAZING!! I definitely recommend this recipe!
Kimberly Kelly says
So good! I added walnuts to the chocolate version and drizzled some heavy whipping cream on top:)
Kate says
I wanted something SUPER RICH so… 2T butter, 2 yolks instead of 1 whole egg, 1T Swerve plus pinch stevia, 1T coconut flour and about 10 76% chocolate chips (plus the rest of the stuff). Nuked only 45 seconds (will try only 35 next time). It was perfect! Thank you for the recipe.
Joan says
Delicious I did the chocolate did not like the coco taste , loved the recipe will do vanilla from now on Tks for sharing
Jen says
Yo so I follow a loosely keto diet simply because of allergies I have rather than to specifically loose weight- it happens to mostly be foods I can actually have. So I substituted the flour with chickpea on a whim and honey with a sprinkle of coconut sugar for the sweetener, and did two egg whites for the egg bc I can’t have the yolks and doubled the “pb” which I used soy butter for and it was amazing. Like seriously the best mug cake texture I’ve ever ended up with. It was a very nutty flavored cake with a tiny tight crumb similar to somewhere between a higher end bakery cake and angel food. Super delicious. Most mug cakes are nasty if you don’t eat them scalding hot but this one was even good cold. I did have to add come cooking time in 15 second increments, and it nearly doubled the amount I was expecting, but it was perfect.
I followed the amount called for almond flour rather than coconut so perhaps that may be why. Regardless- so glad I found this recipe as it’s my new favorite and go-to from now on. My big kids will love it too and they’re picky.
Oh! It also didn’t stick horribly like some do, either. When I melted the butter, I added a bit extra and swished it all along the inside of the cup.
Lea says
This was absolutely lovely, thank you!
Robin Haffer says
Question…only 1 tbs coconut or 3 tbs almond flour?
jenniferbanz says
yes, coconut flour is more absorbent than almond flour
candice says
Chocolate one was so good! I didn’t have enough butter so I substituted 1/2 the quantity of butter with coconut oil and cooked it in the microwave (opted to top the mug cake with a naughty amount of sugarfree choc chips). It was super moist and yummy!
Thanks for sharing your recipe!
S Slater says
So good and curbed my sugar craving so quickly! I followed the recipe as directed using coconut butter, coconut flour, Lakanto, but added a few bits of pecans to give it a “butter pecan” flavor…wow! It was so filling and delicious! Thank you so much for this delicious recipe!
Lynda Towery says
Did a dry run on the chocolate recipe with one in the microwave and one in the oven. Oven definitely more moist. Microwave version really puffed up, almost overflowing the ramekin, but was dry after the minimum cook time suggested. The oven one was less puffed up but gave a better presentation and moister even after using the maximum cooking time suggested. Also, I will try and see if adding a little extra sweetener (Truvia) will help. It was not very sweet tasting for a dessert. Hoping this doesn’t make it drier for my dinner guests tomorrow night.
Amber says
Very easy and just what I needed! Thank you! I tried the chocolate one without the chocolate chips. It was chocolatey enough!
Annjali Reddy says
Definitely the best recipe I have tried so far!!
Debbie says
Any way to bake this in the oven?
jenniferbanz says
yes. Use an oven safe ramekin and bake at 350F for 10-15 minutes.
Trish says
This is helping me a lot in my transition. Thank you so much!
Jodi Raymond says
Made the chocolate with coconut flour. Microwaved for 45 seconds then made a hole in the middle and put a tablespoon melted peanut butter. Delicious!
Tahlia says
I was craving something so badly on my vegetarian Keto journey. The peanut butter version was AMAZING! I didn’t add any sweetner but a splash of soy milk at the end and it was perfect! Thanks for a great recipe!
Michelle says
Delish!!! Totally satisfied the sweet craving I was deeply having being new to keto! Totally recommend- I did the chocolate- did I say delish!!? Thank you for sharing !!
Michelle says
Oh! I forgot to mention I used coconut butter instead of butter! I will try the butter next time to compare, but the coconut was pretty wonderful!
Lana McQuown says
This was amazing. I have been searching for a good Keto version of a vanilla birthday cake and this hits the spot. Finally my search is over. It’s fluffy, not eggy, or wet and had a great vanilla flavor. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I made a few adaptions. Instead of butter, I used Mayo, because That’s what I had available. I used almond flour, but replaced one of the recommended Three TBSs with vanilla protein powder, because it seems to add more fluff and rise to mug cakes. I only used 1 TBS sweetener, because of the sweetness in the protein powder. Then I added a pinch of salt and a tiny dab of bake batter extract with the vanilla. I also had to microwave for 30 extra seconds. This was so good. Thanks for sharing such a delicious recipe. I am excited to try the other two versions.
Eve says
I made the chocolate recipe, followed exactly. It came out well. Quite spring and a little eggy. Satisfied the craving for a quick dessert. I will reduce the egg to half next time to see if it is denser that way.
Leora says
Amazing! I was craving a dessert and being a total chocoholic I was blown away. So easy, so quick and it tastes delicious!

I made the chocolate mug cake tonight using coconut flour. It was amazing! So amazing that I let my kids try it and I got up to put a load of laundry in the dryer. When I returned my mug cake had vanished. They’re response was they needed a full taste test! Needless to say, I’m glad it was easy to make another mug.
Jules says
Perfect ending…
Samantha says
So I made the chocolate one and it was great. I plugged in the recipe into my my fitness app the carbs amount to 20g. And that’s with only 1 tbsp of swerve. The numbers you listed for the carbs was 7 carbs? Is that supposed to be net carbs or regular carbs?
jenniferbanz says
Swerve has zero carbs and my fitness pal does not reflect that.
Samantha says
So I’m only 3 weeks into keto so I’m definitely not experienced, on the package of swerve it says 1 tsp has 4 carbs. I really enjoyed this cake is why I’m asking. When I plug in all the ingredients in to make a recipe on my fitness app the total came out with 20 grabs and I was shocked. I double checked the Ingredients and the swerve was what was high. So I think I’m missing somthing.
Sama says
Hey Samantha! The carbs in swerve are erythritol which is a sugar alcohol that our body doesn’t use, so you can subtract that from total carbs and so your net carbs should be lower. Hope that helps. Happy Keto-ing!
Jane says
I am sure it was net carbs and your swerve shouldn’t be any carbs, if it is, you should change your keto sweetener IMO..I use pyure and it’s zero carbs. The carbs here are likely the flour, even baking powder has carbs.
Krystal says
Sooo good!!!!
Shannon Delozier says
Tried this tonight and was amazing.
Janeece says
Delicious, so easy! Vanilla is our favorite. I use only 1 TBS Swerve, add cinnamon. We serve with a few spoonfuls of Keto brand ice cream – Sea Salt Caramel. Love this. Thank you Jennifer!
Cristy says
Best ever! I used Hershey’s special dark cocoa (100%) and made my own clarified butter topped it with 4 raw pecans and it was fantastic! Looked like a dark devil’s food cake and 2 T of erythritol was not too sweet for me! Now if I could only get my diabetic brother to try it!
Margaret says
I’ve made these and they are delicious, but I found that 2 tablespoons sweetener was way too much. I only use 1 tablespoon and they are plenty sweet enough without the extra carbs and aftertaste.
su says
best mug cake(s) recipe. hands down!!
Pat says
Made the chocolate one with milk chocolate Lilly’s chips. Very good will make again!!
Cindy Mac says
Enjoyed the taste. I did not use a lot of sweetener and the result was a muffin like cake in a mug. Also the taste was not super rich chocolate. If you’re looking for a super chocolatey cake use more cocoa. Yum!
Laura says
Made one chocolate and one peanut butter with chocolate chips. Had a little cold coffee so added one tablespoon to the chocolate! Yum!!! My husband wouldn’t share his peanut butter one haha. Total fan of these super easy treats??

First off let me start by saying that my husband hates cake (would rather eat pie) — were new to keto and were both craving something sweet tonight .. so I made myself a chocolate cake and my husband the peanut butter cake. He devoured it and so did I! Both were AMAZING and DELICIOUS and we are excited to be able to indulge every now and then and not feel super guilty about it!
Val Wall says
Delicious! Thanks for posting!
Ann says
Just curious ……is it really 1 T of coconut flour OR 3 T of almond flour?
jenniferbanz says
yes
Dana says
Yes, coconut absorbs moisture so you need MUCH less!! Trust it!! 🙂
Kathy says
One of my hubby’s favorites of all time! So easy to make too. I top it with a square of 90% chocolate, peanut butter and a sprinkle of cacao nibs. He loves it!

Have you tried a full cake version of the chocolate peanut butter? The mug is amazing, I want to make a larger cake, but a little lost on how to convert.
jenniferbanz says
I sure haven’t but that sounds amazing!
Jillerie says
I added cream cheese. 2 tbsp cream cheese, heat for 20 seconds in the microwave, mix in 1/2 tsp Truvia (sweetener). Once mug cake is fully blended, drop by spoonful into batter, then swirl one time. Microwave for 1 min, 20 seconds.
Soula says
Forgot to add 5 ? Oops ?
Soula says
Great recipe.
Tried it with maple syrup instead of sweetener
Worked a treat
I’m paleo so I’ve swapped all sweetners for coconut sugar and maple syrup.
I only needed 1tb as I don’t like sweet things anymore.
Don’t even eat chocolate chocolate anymore either.
Thank you for this awesome yummy recipe.
I accidently added 1tb of tahini in the chocolate mug cake recipe and tasted really good too haha

Good for a quick fix! Next time I’ll use monkfruit instead of Splenda and microwave for 55 seconds as mine was a bit dry, as you warned. Nice dessert, or breakfast!

I made the chocolate version. Best ever!!

Wow – this is delicious. I used coconut flour; was out of baking powder, so subbed a tsp of “2 Good” Yogurt, and added both the chocolate and sugar-free crunchy peanut butter. Topped with a few of the sugar-free chocolate chips. Awesome yumminess – thanks for the recipe!!
Zubi says

I can’t wait to try others ?
Lauren says
Used coconut flour and maple syrup and it turned out absolutely delicious!! I added frozen triple berries and heavy whipping cream on top to make it a match made in heaven?
Nina says
This is soooooo goood! So happy I found your recipe!!! For the chocolate cake version – is it 7g carbs minus the 4g fiber so it’s 3.5 net carbs total?
jenniferbanz says
yes
Brenda says
Jennifer I am so happy I found you. Your recipes are really good?
Lisa says
I made this and the batter looked VERY thick… I added a tablespoon of almond milk… it tasted okay but not sure why it seemed rather dense. I used it as a trifle cake, layered with HWC and fresh raspberries, so it was still quite tasty. Served in stemmed wine glasses for effect.
Any idea why it came out so dense? I made the vanilla version.
Tasha says
Ooh, this is so good. Thank you! I put a sugar free chocolate coconut candy in my mom’s and topped it with whipped cream and sugar free chocolate syrup.
Morgan says
I have tried SO many mug cakes and this is by far the best! I made the chocolate one using almond flour and it is rich and decadent while remaining moist. Thank you!!
