Have you been craving keto Chinese food like crazy? I know I have! Did you know with a few simple substitutions, you can make this easy Keto Teriyaki Chicken in less than 30 minutes? Let me show you how!
KETO TERIYAKI SAUCE
Of course, what makes teriyaki chicken is the sauce. Store bought sauce is loaded with sugar and thickeners like corn starch.
For our keto teriyaki sauce, we are using 6 simple ingredients: soy sauce, brown sugar substitute, garlic, ginger, water, and xanthan gum.
After we brown the chicken, we pour this delicious sauce in the skillet and let it simmer with the chicken until it thickens and coats the chicken pieces.
Now we just serve this Keto Teriyaki Chicken topped with green onions and with some cauliflower fried rice.
Some other low carb 30 minute meals worth repeating are...Keto bang Bang Shrimp, Pan Seared Salmon and Avocado Salsa, Ground Beef Stroganoff, Quesadillas in the Oven, and Crack Slaw.

Keto Teriyaki Chicken - 20 Minutes
- 2 Tablespoons avocado oil (Click here for my favorite brand on Amazon)
- 2 ½ Pounds Chicken thighs cut into 1 inch pieces
- ¼ Cup Soy Sauce or Coconut Aminos
- 3 Tablespoons Keto Brown Sugar substitute
- 1 Clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Grated ginger
- ½ Cup water
- ¼ teaspoon xanthan gum (click here to see my favorite brand on Amazon)
- Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for a garnish
- Heat the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-hi heat. Add the chicken and sauté' until cooked through...about 8 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, sugar substitute, garlic, ginger, water, and xanthan gum. Whisk to combine. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the chicken and reduce the heat to medium. Continue cooking for a few more minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
- Serve topped with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish.
- Serve with steamed cauliflower rice for a quick side dish. I like to buy the already riced cauliflower in the frozen section of the grocery store.

Would it be ok to use guar instead of xanthan gum?
I haven't tried it so I cannot say if it will work or not.
We love this recipe! We've had it twice in a week. My family still doesn't know how healthy it actually is.
Would it be possible to freeze the chicken and sauce and cook it later?
LOVE this recipe! So easy and fast, and absolutely delicious. Thank you for sharing!
I’m not sure what went wrong but mine was really watery and tasted like syrup.
Very rarely do I comment on blog recipes but my goodness. This recipe is absolutely amazing! How can eating low carb be this delicious? I’m so impressed!! I served it with a side of broccoli. It needs zero tweaking!
My wife can’t have chicken, so I substituted turkey and it was fantastic.

I use this teriyaki sauce recipe for a variety of things. Best keto teriyaki I have found.
Hi! I’m really confused about it being 0 carbs...maybe you can help me with that. A 1/4 cup of sauce was 8 carbs and 3 tablespoons of stevia brown sugar was 36 carbs. I just ate the meal before checking and now I’m bummed I completely blew my carb max for the day.
Do you mean Were brown sugar? It has zero net carbs. You subtract the sugar alcohols

Made as above with chicken breast. Didn’t have broccoli so I added green pepper. So delicious the whole family loved it!
Great recipe! I used granular white Swerve because I didn’t have the brown one and it still tasted delish, I also added a little bit of sesame oil. The juice thickens as it cools down. I served ii over cauliflower fried rice... so yummy! Thank you!
Tasted great! I added some red pepper flakes for a little kick and served in lettuce wraps. I wish it took on more of the soy sauce color.
Great idea! I’ll be doing that with the leftovers.
Tried this tonight super easy super yummy thankyou ?
I just sauted my chicken and I have a lot of jucie or liquid from the chicken..I am doubling your recipe..do I drain the liquid or will it thicken with the sauce? HELP
kayla barton says
can you make this with olive oil and not avocado oil ?
Is the sauce supposed to be sweet? I didn’t find mine sweet? Should I add more brown sugar swerve?
No, it's mainly savory like a traditional teriyaki sauce.
Crystal D Dearing says
Hi do I drain the chicken after cooking it
I just doubled this recipe and I did drain it. It was delicious.
Vic lee says
Can we leave out Xanthan Gum? It's a bit pricey for me
You could but the sauce wouldn't be as thick.
Susan Miller says
Xanthan gum- get it at a Natural Food Store. I buy it a the Natural Grocery in bulk. It is their brand. MAJORLY cheaper!
Delicious recipe! I didn’t have Xanthan gum so I used psyllium husk powder instead and it worked perfectly.
Added a little less sugar substitute as I'm still getting used to the taste, used fresh ginger instead of powder and added broccoli....very yummy!
Alice Smith says
Awesome and yummy!! And easy! Used Swerve which is the best ever sugar substitute! Served over cauliflower rice and with roasted broccoli. No leftovers.
So happy to hear that!
So good!! My husband loved the sauce. I added a few snow peas to the chicken and sauce and served it over steamed broccoli. I'll definitely make this again.
Super yummy, felt happy after making. But also as a heads up, teriyaki is a Japanese dish ;P
No brown sugar sub right now so I'm going to try whatever sugar sub I have in there. Putting it on my shopping list.
I tried this tonight and I must say it was incredible. I added chili paste over shirataki noodle.
I just followed exactly the recipe and it turns incredibly yummy. I found one awesome keto food.
Thanks so much.
Made this for dinner tonight and was VERY GOOD! My whole family loved it! Followed the recipe exactly but did add broccoli to the chicken and teriyaki sauce and served over cauliflower rice. This is a keeper!

Instead of soy sauce would coconut aminos work just as hood?
yes, coconut aminos work just as well
This was delicious!
Love that this is keto! Can't wait to make it again, was a hit the first time
Made this tonight and loved it. Even the 3 year old that doesn't want to eat anything lately loved it.
I tried this recipe, it’s very delicious. I can cook this without going to the Chinese restaurant.
So glad you liked it!

I don’t have brown sugar substitute. What else would work?
Becki's Whole Life says
Totally craving Chinese so this might just be dinner. Love recipes like this because I can cook some rice for my girls and everyone will enjoy it!
Angie Jones says
What is the protein amount? Is their really 44g fiber? Trying to figure out how? Is that maybe a misprint and it’s 44g protein?
Yes, sorry about that. It is 44g protein
Thank you!! Thought so ?
Melody McNeil says
This was really good. However I don't understand how this is keto/low carb when the sugar substitute I used has 4 carbs per teaspoon and the recipe calls for 3 tablespoons. I mean that adds up.
The carbs from sugar substitutes with sugar alcohols are not counted because they are not processed by the body.
Do u know the nutrition facts for this recipe. Thank u.
yes, it is under Notes in the recipe card
Susie Ford says
Super delicious!!!!! Served with stir fried veggies and leftover cauliflower rice!!!! So Yummy!
So glad you liked it!
Nicole Palos says
I thought soy sause was NOT keto?
I don't see why not. It has no sugar but if you want an alternative you can use coconut aminos.
How much is a serving size?
1/5th of the recipe
Carole Richardson says
For the cauliflower fried rice to accompany this dish, do you use your chicken cauliflower rice casserole recipe minus the chicken? Or do you have a separate recipe. Thank you for your great recipes!
Yes, thats the recipe I would use without the chicken. If you want, you could make it like traditional fried rice instead of baking it in the oven
Claire Daniels says
Looks yummy! In your video, it shows cooking the chicken thighs in the Instant Pot, but don’t see those instructions. Could you add those, please. Thank you in advance.
The Instant pot was not used in this recipe.
