Bang Bang sauce is a creamy and slightly spicy sauce that goes perfectly with fish of all kinds, shrimp, chicken, or salmon. I've tried the original and I believe this homemade sauce recipe is even better.

bang bang sauce in a measuring cup

Living in central Arkansas, our restaurant scene could be much better. We don't even have a Cheesecake Factory! One we do have, though, is Bonefish Grill Restaurant. I've been, I've tried the famous Bang Bang Shrimp Appetizer with the popular sauce, and I must say I was a bit disappointed.

My copycat recipe of the famous sauce is much much better. It has the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, salty, and acidic balance. Once you start making your own tasty dips at home, you will skip takeout because you know your version is better!

What is bang bang sauce used for?

This mayo-based sauce can be used for so many things! I have used it for my own bang bang shrimp recipe, as well as crispy tofu, chunks of chicken, and baked salmon. It would also be a great dipping sauce for chicken wings, crab cakes, chicken nuggets, and French fries.

    Bang bang sauce without sriracha

In this spicy dipping sauce I use sriracha to give it a bit of heat. If you don't have that on hand, you can use your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper is a great option.

Bang Bang sauce is a creamy sauce that is perfect for all kinds of dishes. Use this homemade version as a delicious sauce on fish of all kinds, crispy tofu, chicken wings, crispy fried shrimp, and salmon.

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup light mayonnaise
    • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce
    • Juice of 1 Lime
    • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
    • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
    • 2 tablespoons Sugar or Sugar Substitute
    • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste

    Instructions

    • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well with a whisk. Store leftover sauce in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
The recipe makes a total of 1 cup of sauce. 1 serving equals 2 tablespoons.

    Notes

Spice level: with the 1 tablespoon of sriracha, this versatile sauce was only slightly spicy.  Use more or less depending on your heat tolerance.

Had leftover Bang Bang Sauce from the previous night’s Bang Bang Salmon. Had two couples over for dinner and as an appetizer had Costco prepared shrimp with cocktail sauce. Put out the Bang Bang Sauce also and everyone LOVED it. Once they tried it there was no more cocktail sauce used. Fantastic flavor. They both wanted the recipe.
